ECFA Men's National Team's Exciting Season Opener
This years ECFA men's national rep team started off with a bang against a select squad from our fantastic sponsors Future Elite Sports (FES). Played at a rainy Beaconsfield FC it was the first outing for the new men's squad as the players assembled from all corners of the country.
The game started off as a tightly contested first half with each team adapting to the conditions and getting used to their new team mates. As the newly formed ECFA team grew into the game so did their possession controlling the tempo and flow of the game which lead to their fist goal. Great build up play from the back lead to L. Pigatto running through and confidently slotting home the first goal for ECFA. FES slowly worked their way back into the game and slotted home a well placed free kick into the bottom corner to make it 1-1 at half time.
After several changes at half time the ECFA team kicked on and wore FES down. Combinations, patterns of play and free flowing football opened up the FES defence as L. Burns, J.Pope and S.D’Aversa all fired home to round off the scoring.
A great start to the season and National Team Manager Darin Kilpatrick had this to say,
“It was a disciplined display shown from the players considering they had never played a competitive game as a group together. Lots of work to do in a limited time to try replicate my style, principles and beliefs of how we play, however with the outstanding staff I have around me I’m sure we can bring an amazing learning environment to the programme once again.”
The team next meet at St Georges Park for a training camp and fixtures against Independent Schools FA in December.
