ECFA Committee Member

An opportunity has arisen within AoC Sport as we recruit new members to our English Colleges Football Association (ECFA) Committee.

AoC Sport is looking for up to four members to join the ECFA Committee to create a diverse team with an appropriate mix of skills, experience and backgrounds for a modern, strategic and dynamic advisory group. The committee will provide a voice for members and give expert advice to AoC Sport board members and staff. We are keen that the committee membership represents the rich diversity of the staff and students in the sector we serve and therefore welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates.

Background

The ECFA Committee is one of three advisory groups to the AoC Sport Board. The membership of the committee includes:

• Up to eight senior college members (including Chairperson and Vice Chairperson)

• AoC Director of Sport and Student Experience (Ex Officio position)

• Up to three independent representatives (including The Football Association)

• Up to two young people (e.g. students, apprentices) as youth representatives (co-opted members)

Role Description for ECFA Committee Members

The role is a voluntary non-executive member on the ECFA Committee.

Purpose of Role: To support the ECFA Chairperson and National Football Development Manager in the following:

• Advising the AoC Sport Board on all football related matters.

• Providing leadership and a public face of college football.

• Monitoring delivery against strategic goals and securing FA and other investment.

• Ensuring AoC Sport has wide stakeholder support and achieves continuous improvement in shaping and championing college football and servicing members.

• Developing political and commercial relationships that deliver football development outcomes and support the AoC Sport vision.

• Extending the network, influence and resources of AoC Sport in relation to college football.

• Representing the views of all AoC Sport member colleges at committee meetings to ensure the voice of member colleges are heard.

• Supporting the establishment of a high performing committee.

• Advising the AoC Sport Board, The FA and other national partners on college concerns, aspirations, and ongoing developments regarding football in colleges.

• Supporting the Chairperson, National Football Development Manager and AoC Sport executive as required.

Main duties of an ECFA Committee Member:

• Provide expert advice and support to the Chair and National Football Development Manager through attending and actively participating in ECFA Committee meetings and other events.

• Provide effective collective leadership of college football and advise AoC Sport board on football related matters.

• Working with the committee to take delegated decisions within its remit.

• Use influence, relationships and expertise to advance football in colleges.

• With the Chair and National Football Development Manager, be an advocate for AoC Sport, act as an ambassador for college football and be a strategic influencer within the political environment of colleges.

• Support the National Football Development Manager in the successful delivery of a National Football Strategy for college football in line with the strategies of the FA and AoC.

• Encourage political support and financial investment of partner agencies and others.

• Help ensure that college priorities for football are identified and addressed.

• Ensure the Chairperson and National Football Development Manager are supported appropriately.

Eligibility: ECFA Committee members must:

• Be employed by an AoC Sport member college (membership must be maintained during the committee members term of office) which is committed to the development of football and enters ECFA league and cup competitions annually.

• Currently work in a college

• Currently, or previously, have been an active part of the football workforce

• Meet the requirements in the person specification

Term: Up to three years and no more than two successive terms

Time Commitment: As a minimum, preparation for and attendance at:

• Quarterly meetings of the ECFA Committee (3 of 4 online)

• An annual partnership event such as ECFA Cup Finals, the National Championships, the Annual Football Conference

• Other partner meetings, events such as conferences and launches or occasional local and national meetings with the FA and key partners when required

Plus:

• Regular contact with the Chair, National Football Development Manager and other relevant AoC staff.

• Regular contact with stakeholders and influencers throughout the college and sport sectors.
