A note on the rioting across the UK
AoC Sport stands with all the targeted communities and victims of the recent far-right and racist rioting in many towns and cities across the UK. We know that these events have caused damage and fear in many communities and the legacy will be physical, emotional and social with a danger of deepening divides and hate. The impact of these events has been felt in communities nationwide and our thoughts are with those who have been affected.
Sport is powerful for positive change in our society, uniting people from all backgrounds, races or beliefs. It is a unifier that can bridge divides and foster a sense of community, understanding and mutual respect. As we reflect on the power of sport, we are reminded of the recent Olympic Games, which concluded with a powerful display of unity and diversity. Athletes from around the globe came together, not only to compete but to celebrate the strength found in our differences.
Among these inspiring athletes was Cindy Ngamba, who represented the Refugee Olympic Team in boxing. A former student of Bolton College, Cindy is one of many remarkable athletes who have come through the college sector, demonstrating the incredible talent, determination and resilience that colleges develop. Her journey, like that of so many others, is a testament to the transformative power of sport and education, serving as an inspiration to us all.

We are committed to supporting our staff, colleges and students during this challenging time. We will continue to promote the values of respect, inclusion and fair play through our programmes, ensuring that sport remains a beacon of hope and unity. We are committed to work with our partners and stakeholders to help rebuild and strengthen our communities, using sport as a tool for positive change.
In these challenging times, let us remember the potential we all have to contribute to a peaceful and united society. Together, through the power of sport and education, we can overcome the challenges and create a better future for all.
