Football Development report
AoC Sport is proud to share the latest Football Development report showcasing the significant impact of football across further education during the 2023/24 academic year.
"Our work this year has created playing and leadership opportunities for students, removing barriers to provide access to football in ways that suit their needs. From workforce development to creating inclusive playing opportunities, we’ve seen a real transformation in how colleges engage with our services.”
The report covers how more than 28,000 students are accessing football in various recreational and competitive opportunities provided by AoC Sport. The initiatives delivered across the 2023/24 academic year have not only provided playing opportunities but empowered students from all backgrounds to access leadership and development programmes.
“Our leagues and flexible formats have provided students with competitive experiences tailored to their abilities. The growth of the women and pan-disability games are particularly exciting, and we’re proud to be able to continue to offer such a wide range of opportunities to our members.”
The English Colleges Football Association (ECFA) Development Framework, created in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, has continued to help colleges enhance their football programmes by supporting them to develop participation, competition, workforce, and community engagement. 104 colleges have achieved ECFA accredited college status, demonstrating the sector's commitment to developing an inclusive football environment for students.
The ECFA Activators had a significant impact on football in further education as part of the wider Student Leadership Programme. Their efforts were crucial in expanding female football provision and offering inclusive opportunities for students to play, volunteer and lead. Through partnerships with County FAs and grassroots clubs, activators were also deployed into community based opportunities, contributing to the growth of local football.
The Rising Leaders programme has continued to empower young women from minority ethnic backgrounds through leadership development in football. This programme has been instrumental in tackling barriers and supporting confident female leaders to access opportunities within their community.
With our continued commitment to creating active students, and healthier colleges. AoC Sport is proud to work with our stakeholders to support our members to deliver opportunities through football across further education.
