Organisation: Stoke On Trent College
Location: Stoke-On-Trent
Closing Date: 26 Feb 2025
Stoke on Trent College plays a vital role in enabling social mobility, supporting businesses and developing skills to strengthen the local economy, while having a significant impact on individual students’ lives and opportunities. We are the largest provider of further education in Stoke and North Staffordshire, with a broad range of educational and skills pathways including study programmes (16-18 years old), Adult offer (19+), Apprenticeships and higher-level courses (Level 4 and above). We have developed Skills Hubs and Specialist Academies, which are impactful in driving opportunities in local priority sectors and in growing the talent to meet regional workforce demand, as well as creating strong partnerships with the Institute of Technology and two leading universities to support progression routes, in order for us to deliver on the College’s Mission, facilitating our learners to be ‘Skills Ready, Future Ready’.
We are an ambitious organisation, passionate about transforming lives through learning. We have been on a highly successful transformation journey over the last few years, resulting in growth in student numbers, enhanced reputation and outstanding financial health. Graded as good by Ofsted, we are keen to cement our position as the college of choice for our city and the surrounding area.
We are seeking new Governors to join the college Corporation (Governing Body) to play a role in taking our college even further forwards. Governors make an important contribution to the college and, therefore, to the students by ensuring that the vision and policies are appropriate and that it is well run by our Executive Leadership Team. The focus of the Corporation’s attention is on strategy and it acts as a decision-making body.
We are keen to attract people from various backgrounds who would like to help us to shape the future of our college. In return you will work with a great team of aspirational people and gain insight into a range of strategic aspects, while making a positive impact on our students, communities and the wider economy. Previous Governor experience is not required as you will benefit from a well-supported induction and training programme.
At present we are specifically seeking individuals with experience in finance (ideally a qualified accountant from any sector) and in curriculum and quality (this does not have to be within Further Education; we would also welcome a background in schools, academies, training providers or other education organisations). Experience and/or understanding of broader cultural transformation alongside core specialism is very welcome too.
Key Dates to Note:
Closing date for applications is: Wednesday 26 February 2025
Final interview date (to take place at the college): Early March to mid-March

For an informal discussion about the role, contact Bernie at bernie.cullen@aoc.co.uk
