- Director of Governance
Director of Governance
Salary: Up to £65,000 (some additional flexibility may be available for an exceptional candidate. Role available on a full-time or part-time (0.8FTE) basis)
Organisation: Oaklands College
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire
Closing Date: 30 Mar 2025
Oaklands College is a forward-thinking education and skills provider, with a rich history of delivering innovative, transformative education. Alongside our broad Further Education and Higher Education provision, we offer a variety of centres of excellence across key areas including SEND, Sport, Engineering, Care, Early Years and the Creative Industries, enabling us to provide tailored programmes that meet the needs of our diverse student body.
As a college, we are continually striving to expand our reach and reputation. While we have long been a vital part of the Hertfordshire community, we are now positioned to grow beyond local significance, establishing ourselves as a leading educational institution both regionally and nationally. Our ambition drives us to maintain high standards of education and support, ensuring every student is prepared for success in their chosen field. The college, which is Ofsted graded ‘good’, provides high quality academic, technical and vocational training to enhance qualifications, skills and employability across the region and beyond.
We are seeking a new Director of Governance who will provide leadership, advice and support in relation to governance activities, statutory matters and regulatory compliance in line with best sector practice. Working closely with the Chair and the Board of governors, you will play a key role in ensuring they fulfil their remit and contribute meaningfully to the strategic direction of the college, promoting sound standards of governance and providing relevant training and guidance. Our Board of governors, which this role will support, is impactful and ambitious for the future, providing effective challenge and support for the college to succeed. This role provides ample opportunity for a forward-thinking individual to bring fresh ideas and to develop new ways of working.
Our successful candidate will bring robust experience of working in a governance role, with a thorough understanding of corporate governance, including the operation of a Board of governors. We are flexible regarding sector background, if you are confident in interpreting legislation and policy, and able to provide authoritative advice. Strong communication and organisation skills are of key importance, as is the ability to prioritise and to work on your own initiative.
If you believe that you have the drive, vision, skills, expertise, and enthusiasm to make a difference and help us realise our ambitions, we want to hear from you.
Key Dates to Note:
Closing date for applications is: Sunday 30 March 2025
First round interviews will take place (via Teams or similar): Thursday 3 April to Monday 7 April 2025
Final selection date (to take place at the college): Friday 2 May 2025
