AoC Sport (Association of Colleges) and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) have announced a new memorandum of understanding aimed at ensuring that the sport and physical activity sector’s future workforce is more closely aligned to employer needs.

Over 40,000 students currently study sport and physical activity qualifications in further education colleges across England and the aim of this collaboration is to enhance study programmes with insight from local employers in the sector, giving students the opportunity to access the required learning that meets the specific skills demands in their local area.

The work also aims to elevate and reinforce the status and recognition of the next generation of sector professionals whilst boosting awareness of the diversity, longevity and the economic, health and wellbeing and a career in sport and physical activity can provide.

Alongside this, as part of this agreement, AoC Sport will join the sector’s Workforce Professional Development Board which is a lead authority on workforce policy. It will also see AoC Sport and CIMSPA working together to highlight career options and showcase development pathways through connections made between colleges and Local Skills Accountability Boards.
