Janet is an experienced strategic leader with a commercial background and a successful track record of transformational change. Since moving into the public sector around 20 years ago, Janet has worked in senior leadership roles within diverse and complex FE colleges across London and was appointed as Principal and CEO of Waltham Forest College in 2020.
Janet Co-Chairs the London Anchors’ Institution Network Hiring and Skills Group, serves on the Mayor of London’s Partnership Board, is a co-opted board member of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) London Council, and is Chair of the Association of Colleges (AoC) London Committee.
Alison is the Teaching and Learning Quality Manager at Hopwood Hall College, bringing over 20 years of experience in specialist schools and FE as a childcare lecturer. Prior to her current role, Alison served as an Advanced Practitioner for six years. Recently, she was honoured with the ETF Advanced Teacher Status, reflecting her dedication to teaching and learning. Notably, her Quality team at Hopwood Hall College was recognised with the Pearson Silver award for FE team of the year, and they are proud finalists for the prestigious Gold award. Together, they strive for continuous improvement and exceptional quality in everything
Vanessa is the Assistant Principal with responsibility for the A level programme at Runshaw college. She has over 20 years’ experience of teaching and leading in Further Education at a number of colleges in the Northwest. Vanessa has a passion for curriculum development and a strong background in driving quality improvement across level 3 programmes.
Liz is Director of SCiLAB (FBL’s Scholarship centre) and a senior lecturer of the Open University Law School. She is an academic lead on the OU’s generative AI Steering Group and has carried out and published research into the impact of GAI on teaching and assessment, and its impact on the public’s access to justice. She was principal investigator on the NCFE funded ‘Developing robust assessment in the light of generative AI’ research project.
Kate Jones is a teacher, leader, bestselling author, blogger and award-winning international speaker. She is Senior Associate for Teaching and Learning at Evidence Based Education and the author of nine books including a bestselling series on retrieval practice. Kate writes extensively about education on her website and in various educational magazines including Teach Middle East Magazine and the TES and is also the founder of The Love To Teach Podcast. She has presented and worked with schools around the world including the UK, Middle East, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Europe and more. You can connect with Kate on social media @KateJones_Teach.
Sharmen Ibrahim is the Group Director of Digital Education and Artificial Intelligence at Activate Learning Group, leading the digital education provision since 2017. She has implemented processes leading to the contextualisation of digital competencies across various curriculum areas as well as processes for creating and quality-checking online content hosted on the LMS. She has been instrumental in writing the AI policy and leading the AI committee at Activate Learning. Recognised for her dedication, she received the Oxford High Sheriff Award in 2022/23 for supporting young people in Oxfordshire.
Laura Kayes has worked in the further education sector for more than a decade. She currently works for the Luminate Education Group as a research practitioner, contributing to the wider, and often-neglected, field of research in further education, and supporting colleagues to undertake practitioner research within the group. A music and performing arts teacher by trade, Laura now teaches in the group’s teacher education provision. Laura is a member of the board of governors for Hartlepool College, and is also a Doctorate in Education student with the University of Sheffield with a research interest in class-based micro-aggressions in education policy, it's interpretation, and practice. Laura is supported in her doctoral studies by the Association of College’s Research Further initiative.
Mark is the Founder and Managing Director of Mindful Education, the multi award-winning edtech company specialising in professional courses and apprenticeships.
Mindful Education partners with 65+ colleges around the UK, delivering flexible blended courses and apprenticeships to 3,500+ learners each year.
Prior to setting-up Mindful Education, Mark trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte LLP, going on to become a Senior Manager at the firm. After seven years of advising and working with clients in London, Mark studied for a full-time MBA with Melbourne Business School, where he graduated with a distinction.
Paul Joyce is one of His Majesty’s Inspectors and is the Deputy Director for Further Education & Skills. Paul joined Ofsted in 2005 as an HMI having previously worked within the Further Education and Skills sector in both general and specialist further education colleges. Immediately prior to working for Ofsted, Paul was a consultant for the former Department for Education and Skills and worked on national initiatives supporting improvements to teaching and learning and in leadership and management. Paul has significant inspection experience in both the schools and further education & skills remits and prior to being appointed Deputy Director was a Senior HMI with responsibility for the college inspection programme nationally.
