David Gaughan, Head of Employer Services, West Midlands Combined Authority

As Head of Employer Services at the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), David has been tasked with leveraging the WMCA devolved powers to drive productivity and growth across the west midlands through adult skills training. He plays a key role in shaping the WMCA’s ambitions to create an integrated employment and skills system to link residents to good jobs and support businesses to source future talent along developing the existing workforce. David has more than 25 years’ experience in the education and skills sector. Before joining the WMCA, David has held a number of senior leadership positions both in government and in further education colleges, and currently is an external adviser to University of Westminster related to skills after previously supporting University College London in the same capacity. David, is also the owner and founder of an education and skills consultancy based out of Pembrokeshire, Wales.
