Tackling food poverty on Teeside

Case study by Middlesbrough College

Middlesbrough College is situated at the heart of Middlesbrough, one of the most deprived areas in the United Kingdom (UK). The area has some of the highest rates of poverty in the UK. A 2023 report into poverty suggested up to 48% of people in Middlesbrough live on or below the poverty line, twice the national average. The Middlesbrough College Youth Social Action Ambassadors decided to make the focus of their youth social action project about poverty. They worked as a team with others inside the college and with external local charities and organisations not only to raise awareness of the poverty but to do something to make a difference to the lives of others.
