Creative Arts in FE 2024 – developing student voice through creativity
Following the success of the Creative Writing in FE 2023 project, we were delighted to launch a new version of the programme for 2024. Celebrating creative writing is still at the core of this opportunity, but we opened up responses to the brief to also include Photography, Visual Arts and Spoken Word.
The programme gave students in FE colleges the chance to create their own piece of work in response to a brief set by UAL Awarding Body. It was an opportunity to creatively explore issues that are key to young people and their peers. We of course welcomed submissions from the wider college community.
Artist and author interviews have been shared throughout the project, helping to understand different creative processes and approaches. We have curated submissions into an anthology and gallery which you can access on the link below. We’ll also be sharing works throughout November in a social media celebration and at the annual AoC Conference in Birmingham.
The key ethos of this programme is taking part, and we are so pleased that students were encouraged to put pen to paper, transform ideas into designs and most importantly embrace their creativity.
The Creative Arts in FE 2024 programme has been supported by programme sponsors the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) and UAL Awarding Body. It is facilitated and coordinated by AoC's Charitable Trust.

The Creative Arts in FE programme is supported by programme sponsors the CLA and UAL Awarding Body
The CLA, a regulated not-for-profit organisation, licenses organisations to lawfully use, copy, and share text and image-based content owned by authors, publishers, and visual artists. Revenues are distributed to owners, ensuring fair compensation for rights holders and support for the UK's creative economy.
At UAL Awarding Body, we design and award creative qualifications that empower and inspire educators to help students reach their potential. We believe in transformative education and are currently regulated by Ofqual, CCEA Regulation and Qualifications Wales.
More about us:
- We offer qualifications in art and design, fashion, creative media, music and performing and production arts, from Entry Level to Level 4
- We create qualifications that are flexible, responsive and relevant to industry needs
- We are the UK’s largest provider of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design qualification
- Our qualifications have high retention and achievement rates and facilitate student progression
