Helen Hewlett

Helen Hewlett is an education consultant with extensive experience in governance and educational leadership. Currently, she serves as the National Group Lead for the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors (CIEA) at the University of Hertfordshire, supporting headteachers and senior leaders nationally. Additionally, Helen works with the Schools Students and Teachers (SSAT) network, aiding schools and colleges on their Embedding Formative Assessment (EFA) programme.

Helen’s governance expertise is further demonstrated in her role as Chair of Governors at a secondary school in the Midlands, where she leads the board and oversees strategic decisions. She also works as an assessor, facilitator and mentor on several National Professional Qualification (NPQ) programmes, including Leading Teaching, Leading Literacy, and Leading Behaviour and Culture supporting senior leaders nationally.

Beyond governance, Helen supports the University of Surrey’s Area Outreach Programme, providing GCSE masterclasses, and is a member of Ofqual’s panel of experts. Her additional experience includes mentoring on Outstanding Teaching Learning and Assessment (OTLA) projects, consulting for Stoke on Trent’s Opportunity Area Programme and working as a Principal Examiner for GCSE and A level English literature for AQA.
