14 December 2017
The number of colleges benefitting from Active Colleges funding has been increased further thanks to £4m of National Lottery funding from the second round of Sport England's Further Education Activation Fund.
Over the next three years, 63 projects will be delivered at 72 further education and sixth form colleges across England to help get 59,000 new students playing sport. The news was first announced during College Sport Week and now the list of successful colleges has been published.

Sport England Chief Executive, Jennie Price, said: “Our investment in further education and sixth form colleges is vital if we are to get more young people playing sport. By investing in these colleges, including 27 who are receiving our funding for the first time, we’re helping to make sport more accessible, more attractive and more convenient to young people as they move on from school to college.”
Richard Atkins, Chair of the Association of Colleges Portfolio Group for Sport, said: "This is good news for colleges across England. By providing additional funding for specific sports projects, colleges can look to increase the opportunities for their students.
"Sport England has already assisted colleges by providing funding for 153 college sport makers, as well as money for 37 projects in the first round of funding, and this additional money will be used to help increase participation in sport by students.
"As colleges we now have a responsibility to increase the participation in physical activity and sport by our students, by making sure it is a central part of our curriculum and wider opportunities."
