English and maths condition of funding announcement
14 December 2017
The Education Funding Agency's Director of Young People, Peter Mucklow, has announced at AoC's Annual Conference, that EFA will extend the 5% tolerance factor on the condition of funding for one year for English and maths.
In response, Julian Gravatt, Assistant Chief Executive at the Association of Colleges, said:
”Colleges are working hard to motivate the thousands of students who are required to retake GCSE English and maths qualifications. We are pleased that the Government will be extending the tolerance on the condition of funding for one year for these subjects and this is something we called for in our Autumn Statement submission. The decision recognises the progress that colleges have made in enrolling young people on English and maths courses.
“It is important that all young people are able to achieve better numeracy and literacy skills. We now also need to introduce a new pathway for young people who do not achieve a GCSE in English and maths.”
