College students celebrate GCSE success 2018

Students across the country are collecting their GCSE results and we'll be bringing you some of their stories across the day. Name: Benedicte Kabibi | College: St Brendan’s Sixth Form College Benedicte jumping.jpg Benedicte arrived with one GCSE in French. Today she found out that she can add GCSE English Language (grade 4) to her list of qualifications. She now enough GCSEs and A-levels to go onto to do a degree at in Learning Disability Nursing at Keele University. She has achieved all of this while fighting a long and emotional battle to win asylum in this country, which last month was finally granted.Name: Kate Jubb | College: Hartlepool College DlRrKhtXgAAsjEW.jpg Kate, an adult learner, who balanced her full-time Degree at Teesside University with evening classes this year to achieve 2 High B's (equivalent) in Maths & English. Name: Matty and Matteo | Age: 18 | College: Barnet and Southgate College Matteo.jpg Matty and Matteo both studying science are really please to get 8s and 7s in Biology and Chemistry. They are now going on to study A Levels at the college. Name: Rowshon Akter | College: Bradford College Rowshon.jpg Rowshon received 7 and 6 in her GCSEs and is going to study Access to HE at the college. Name: Julia Edwards | College: Bradford College Julia Edwards.jpg Julia was brought to tears by achieving the highest possible grade in English – a 9.The mature student, who also picked up a pass in biology, returned to education to boost career options.Julia said; “It has been great coming back into eduction. I have really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.” Name: Jennifer Taylor | College: Bradford College Jennifer Taylor.jpg Jennifer is a step closer to a dream career of a teaching after getting maths GCSE. The 38-year-old works as a teaching assistant at Shirley Manor Primary Academy in Wyke but is keen to get a full teaching qualification.
Jeniffer said “I came back to education four years ago to train as a teaching assistant. I love being a teaching assistant but I know I can give more for the children and in particular I would like to work with children with special educational needs. I need my English and Maths to get on to a teaching degree so I am elated to have got the maths and will come back to Bradford College next year to do my English. I needed a four but got a five so am delighted."Name: Ebony Proctor | College: Bradford College Ebony Proctor.jpg Budding police officer Ebony Proctor was celebrating after passing GCSE English.The 20-year-old from Ravenscliffe is studying Public Services at Bradford College and needed a grade 4 in English to pursue the dream of a career in the force.“I am so relieved to have finally passed. This is my fourth time. I was shocked when I opened the envelope but I am so happy. I can now move on to the extended diploma in public services and hopefully eventually make it into the police force.”Name: Jodie Hutton | College: Loughborough College Unknown.jpeg The 17 year old Women’s Super League player who has also been part of the England squad was thrilled to make it a double, passing Maths and English GCSEs and will return to the College next year to complete a Sport BTEC.“I struggle with English so I was stunned to achieve a grade 5, which would have been a B in the old marking system. I also passed Maths with grade 4. I was ready to give up so many times in English but my teacher Gina was fantastic. She encouraged me to keep going and I am so pleased she did. I would have been over the moon with a 4 but a 5 is amazing. Me and Gina couldn’t stop smiling.” Name: Luke Mockford | Age: 18 | College: Loughborough College Unknown-1.jpeg Luke has been celebrating an outstanding GCSE achievement this morning.Mum, Nicola said “Luke has cerebral palsy after he did not get enough oxygen at birth. He uses a wheelchair and a computer to communicate. He needed to take the maximum time available for his Maths GCSE.“Opening that envelope today was wonderful. It expands his opportunities. It has been great for Luke to be at Loughborough College, out in the world. He hopes to study Media with them and that will hopefully expand his options for a career even further. Name: Charlotte Mulligan | Age: 17 | College: South Gloucestershire and Stroud College | Results: B in all sciences, grade 5 in maths and English Charlotte Mulligan.jpg She said “I'm ecstatic. It's taken two hours on the train every day to get to college but it's been worth it. The college couldn't have been more helpful or supportive. I couldn't recommend it any higher.” Name: Zack Gatehouse | Age: 17 | College: South Gloucestershire and Stroud College | Result: Grade 4 English | Destination: Now going to study Level 2 carpentry at the college Zack Gatehouse.jpg Zack said “School was hard because you have so many exams to do all at once. It was so much easier at SGS as I had the time I needed to focus. I also became a lot more open minded about what I could achieve. I'm really chuffed. College felt like a fresh start for me. It was a breeze to make new friends and staff were also really friendly.” Name: Hristina Grebcheva | College: Uxbridge College | Results: grades 9, 8, 7 and 7, and an A* in Media, English subjects, Biology and Maths Hristina Grebcheva.jpg Hristina will be staying on at Uxbridge College to study A Levels in Business Studies, Media Studies and English, and plans to go to university.Name: Matthew Thompson | Age: 21 | College: South Devon College MATTHEW THOMPSON.jpg Matthew gained great GCSE results including a grade 6 in English Language. Matthew now plans to start an exciting apprenticeship and when asked about his time at South Devon College, Matthew said “As an adult learner I really liked the atmosphere here, it felt like a mature learning environment rather than a school”. Name: Michelle Collins | Age: 38 | College: South Devon College MICHELLE COLLINS.jpg Michelle achieved great GCSE results with a grade 6 in English and grade 5 in Biology. Michelle now plans to study a degree in Nursing.
