Addressing the needs of the teacher labour market: AoC responds
20 May 2019
The Education Policy Institute (EPI) research considers the latest trends in the profession and examines the latest figures on how highly-qualified teachers are represented across different subjects, areas in the country, and at different levels of school deprivation.
In response, Catherine Sezen, Senior Policy Manager at the Association of Colleges, said:
“Great teachers transform lives so it is vital that colleges are able to attract and train the very best. This report highlights the challenges, but much more needs to be done to ensure everybody working in education is recognised and rewarded and this must include a renewed focus on colleges.
“We need to retain and properly reward great teachers, keeping them in the profession. A decade of cuts, disproportionately impacting colleges makes this tough - that is why we continue to press the government for fair funding for colleges. If we want to deliver a truly world-class academic and technical educational system, we need to properly invest in it. Over the coming weeks we will be loudly and proudly making the case for a sector that transforms the life chances of 2.2 million people across England each year.”
