Jamal Edwards MBE was a pioneering British entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist. Renowned for his significant impact on the UK's music and digital media scene, he founded online music platform SBTV in 2006, instrumental in launching the careers of artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Dave, and Jessie J.
Jamal studied Creative Media at Ealing Green College, part of West London College, where he nurtured his passion for film and music. He began recording local rap performances and uploading them to YouTube, a hobby which quickly evolved into creating SBTV, providing a unique space for emerging artists to showcase their talent.
In 2013, he published a book sharing his journey and inspiring countless young entrepreneurs. The following year, in recognition of his contributions to music and media, Jamal was awarded an MBE, making him one of the youngest recipients of the honour.
Deeply involved in charity work, Jamal was a champion for mental health awareness and supported youth entrepreneurship programmes. He remained a continual friend of the college and a pasionate advocate for Further Education. Jamal sadly passed away on 20 February 2022, leaving a profound legacy and an indelible mark on the UK's cultural landscape.
